Heartbroken

OK folks, this is it. The Aran cardigan is done, buttons are sewn on, buttonholes are finished. I didn't think this would make me quite this sad but I am. Anyway, I have to sell this-can use the money to buy more yarn to make myself one that will fit. I was stupid for not double and triple checking the size before I started. I made medium and I should have made large. I need to take measurements of this so whoever buys it knows it'll fit. Not patting myself on the back, I am NEVER one to tout my own horn as I am always very critical of my work but I am damn proud of this sweater.

Jerry,
That turned out so weel with those buttons! And, having seen this seater first hand on Saturday, I am kicking myself that I didn't try it on...hmmm...take measurements...I'm just saying it was FAR nicer then even the "real" Arans they have at the local "Celtic Irish shop". I'm saving your pics, because I've seen this sweater, and I want to remember this.

Jerry, can you not block it out enough to make it wearable?

That's a whole lot of cabling going on! It's turned out really well and a shame about the size.

Kyra- I've blocked it all it can be blocked without distoring it. It'll be ok, I can make another

Rain- LOL! Yes, that's a whole lot of cabling going on. Quite fun to knit actually. It was a good lesson NOT TO RUSH LOL! I'm famous for that. Had I taken the time to verify the size, I'd be wearing it right now.

Darn right you should be proud, that is one gaw-juss aran. We've all made those kind of gauge mistakes, but this one is especially heartbreaking because of the love & care that obviously went into it. [sigh] Someone (a lucky medium) will benefit handsomely from your mistake.

It is a beautiful piece of work. shame you have to give it up. :(

Right on Kay! Someone is going to be very lucky and get a very nice gift. That love and care will go back into another one soon, with just as much fascination watching them knit up.

Sean...any of your Arans in your archives? I'd love to see them, they're all so interesting and beautiful. Thank you for the compliment!

Hiya Ginx....It is a shame I have to sell it, however, someone is going to end up with an heirloom to hand down. That makes me happy. I know I'd be over the clouds to get a gift like that.

That looks fabulous! I love how the buttons fit snugly in between the cables!

I hope your next one comes out as well, and that you fetch a decent price for this one.

Jenn- Thank you. I always loved how the buttons fit between the cables too. Next one will be just as nice I hope.

What a breathtaking Aran! Wow. The person that buys it will be quite lucky to get such a fantastic hand knitted item.

Thank you Queen! I need to get it posted on eBay I guess. This weekend maybe I can hound my partner to do it for me.

Thanks Drew....it was fun to make.

That is beautiful. Is it your pattern or something published?

Jerry said...

Thank you. It is a pattern from a vintage book put out, as best I can tell, by Bear Brand yarns. I have no idea when it was published, I can't find a copyright anywhere. The styles suggest probably the 50's, going by the hairstyles. The book cost 50¢ -you KNOW it's old :-) Today it'd probably be closer to $20 or so if not more.
